Just in case you forgot, the first meeting of
ISU College Democrats will take place tomorrow
at 7p.m. in CVA 145. Mayor Chirs Koos of Normal
will come and speak to us about issues that
affect college students and how we can help with
his upcoming campaign this spring. There will also
be a power point presentation about our goals for
this semester and how we will go about accomplishing
them.So tell anyone you know who still can't believe
60 million hicks decided to screw us for another
4 years to come and join us tomorrow night
and find out how we'll beat back the conservatives
one more time.
Democratically Yours,
Zach Koutsky

Meeting on 1/25/05
Bush on Pell Grants
Here is a copy of a letter to the editor in Saturday's Pantagraph regarding recent cuts to Pell Grants...
=====
Education is a key that has the potential to open a million doors. Every year millions of Americans get the great opportunity to go to college and continue their education. A very short time ago President Bush slammed that door shut for millions of students.
Recently the United States Department of Education under the leadership of President Bush decided to rewrite the requirements to receive Pell Grants.
Under these proposed changes an estimated 1.3 million college students will lose some if not all of their grants. This is the first time in 15 years that the requirements have been changed. The President chooses to change the requirements in a way that is unfair towards many that receive Pell Grants. The President is not just slicing into the budget but into the dreams of millions of college students.
An education creates possibilities that are endless beyond belief, when the President made this decision to cut Pell Grants shuts the doors on many of these possibilities.
