CDA Convention Day 1

Greetings all from our nation's capitol. ISU Dems President Logan Faron, Historian Brendan Sullivan, and myself are in DC this weekend for the College Dems of America's 2005 Convention.

Today was the first day of officail events. Our day started on Capitol Hill visiting with members of Congress. Our ISU delegation visited with; Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL 2) and representatives from the office of Congresswoman Jan Schawkowsky (D-IL 9). Also for good measure we stopped for a photo-op with ISU's representative in Congress Jerry Weller (R-IL 11). It was a fun time to say hello to Mr. Weller...hahahahaha (evil laugh)....

After our visits we walked over to one of the holiest spots in all of DC, the HQ of the Democratic National Committee. We picked up our credentials and then joined the mob of College Dems on the trek back to the Capitol.

Once arriving back at the Capitol we attended a townhall forum put on by Democratic House Leader Nacny Pelosi and the Thirty-Something Working Group. Members in attendance included; Leader Pelosi, Representatives Meek (D-FL), Ryan (D-OH), Herseth (D-SD), Sanchez (D-CA), and Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL). The forum focused on young people and Social Security. It was a great event with time for Q & A and photos ops...

Day one is over and we are awaiting tommorow, where Senators Clinton and Kerry and Gov Dean, will address the convention...

Karl Rove is pure evil

Move over Emperor Palpatine, your reign as top villain of 2005 is over. Only I wish the guy who's replacing you was fictional too.

You may remember top Bush advisor Karl Rove from his previous work in the 2000 Republican primary when he had Bush volunteers call and ask potential voters if they would vote for John McCain if they knew he had fathered a illegitimate black child.

But hey, making up unfounded rumors about an honorable American in an effort to smear him out of the nomination instead of winning it on your own candidate's strength is just part of the game, right?

Wrong

Rove has been in the news a lot recently

First was this quote of revisionist history that would make David Irving proud.

"Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers,"

...

WHAT?

DID YOU LIVE IN A CAVE IN 2001???

I'm sorry Mr. Rove, but the only indictments I would serve for our September 11th attackers would have come from the guns of Army Rangers.

Now a man who supposedly supports the war on terror outs the identity of a CIA agent because her husband called the White House out on a false claim?

Let's get this straight again: A MAN WHO WORKS FOR THE PRESIDENT REVEALED THE SECRET IDENTITY OF A CIA AGENT

Karl Rove is the epitomy of what's wrong with politics.

I was disappointed with the Swift Boater attacks.

I was disgusted when Purple Heart bandaids were given out at the Republican National Convention.

But this is a new low

I can only hope that the picture on the right actually happens (In the meantime this photoshop from Fark.com will suffice) and Karl Rove's dishonorable fat ass rots in a cell

Indpendence Day Open Thread

Greetings Fellow ISU College Dems,

While next year will not have any major political races like we all remember from last fall, next year is still a very important year to be a College Democrat as we prepare for 2006, 2008 and beyond. I want to take this oppurtunity to open things up to you. Please post your ideas for next year, what speakers would you like us to try to bring to campus or what events do you think we should try put on next year, we want to hear what you think. This is your chance to share with us what you want to do next fall.

I promise another great year and that the blog will be all new and improved come August. Also take a moment to vote in our poll for who you think the Democratic nominee for Governor should be...

Thanks and have a great 4th of July...
